The state of Utah was just named #2 in the nation for Veteran Suicide!
Utah has a consistently high suicide rate, often exceeding the national average, with an average of 685
deaths per year.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for Utahs ages 10-44, ...
and it is a leading cause of death for youth.
Death by suicide for Utah Veterans is #2 in The Nation. National ave. 22 a day!
On June 6, 2026, we WILL bring further awareness, education, counseling, and HOPE to Veterans
AND
regular citizens struggling with one or more of the three tenets of suicide.
Whether that may
be those that have attempted suicide, considering suicide or even the horrible trauma of being a
suicide survivor also known as Survivors Guilt.
“She never showed a clue ... I had NO IDEA ...
maybe I could have helped her"
People NEED solutions.
Solutions create HOPE
WE HAVE SOLUTIONS!

Ask not what your Country can do for you...BUT what YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY!

American Legion Riders chapters are well known for their charitable work. Since 2006, Riders nationwide have participated in The American Legion Legacy Run to annually raise money for the Legacy Scholarship Fund, established to provide scholarships to children of U.S. military personnel killed since Sept. 11, 2001.

Since 1932.
Primary Mission: To place an emphasis on preserving American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation’s children, caring for veterans and their families, and teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.

At its core, The American Legion is activating a national platform to reduce the rate of veteran suicide. The Be the One campaign will: De-stigmatize asking for mental health support, creating opportunity for those with mental health issues to speak freely and get the support they need.

As part of The American Legion Be the One mission to end veteran suicide, we have joined forces with Columbia University to develop training for those who want to learn more about interacting and responding with veterans who may be in crisis. After the training, participants will be able to:
• Use the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale to determine at-risk individuals.
• Identify risk factors and warning signs
• Outline the types of suicidal ideation and four behaviors that indicate
imminent risk.
• Communicate effectively with an individual who may be at risk of hurting themselves.
Members of The American Legion Family are encouraged to take part in this training and share the training with their communities.
